To understand the expected changes in skills and learning, let us understand the changing trends in management and HR. The trends include:

1.Flexible workweeks, workplaces, and work timings will necessitate a new set of skill sets for both managers and employees.

2.Managerial evolution and new challenges in the workspace will demand fresh learning interventions for managers, placing greater emphasis on conflict resolution and the integration of DEI.

3.Skills will hold greater value than degrees.

4.AI will reshape work dynamics by creating new types of workforce opportunities instead of reducing them.

Considering these changes and other factors reveals emerging trends in skill requirements in 2024 and beyond.

Let us look at the key suggestions by World Economic Forum as published in their Future of Jobs Report.

The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs report suggests a shift in some key skills and the emergence of new ones:

1.Cognitive skills, especially complex problem-solving, are rapidly gaining importance.

2.Creative thinking surpasses analytical thinking in significance.

3.Technology literacy is progressing at a slower pace.

4.Surprisingly, self-efficacy skills are growing faster than collaborative skills, highlighting the need for resilient individuals.

5.Socio-emotional attitudes like curiosity and self-awareness are gaining prominence.

6.The top 10 skills include systems thinking, AI, big data, talent management, and service orientation.

Traditional skills like reading, writing, and mathematics are declining. Ethical skills make their debut, reflecting a growing emphasis on ethical conduct in the workplace.

Changing trend for trainers

Taking these trends into consideration, we, as trainers, should concentrate on improving our knowledge and skills in areas such as adaptability, managerial flexibility, creative thinking, and complex problem-solving. Soft-skills trainers can delve into learning and teaching ethics, self-efficacy skills, fostering curiosity, and promoting self-awareness, among other aspects.
